Forums or blogs are sites where people have something in common and talk about the particular matter at hand. They will leave comments about a certain subject, and when they do, they leave a signature link. This links back to their own site – hoping that people will click on the link to gain more traffic. In a way, it’s really a free form of advertisement. It is also great getting ranked higher.
This has been somewhat of a controversy in the SEO world. Signature links aren’t supposed to help client’s sites move up in the Google rankings. There have been more and more SEO experts come out and say otherwise. We are of the latter – we have tested signature links and have seen them push client’s sites up in the rankings. There is no doubt about it. In most cases, even if we are linking from a non-relevant forum, our client’s websites get moved up, sometimes to the first page.
Since our tests have proved positive (though it does take a long time for the signature links to produce results), we make this a daily tasks. That is how much we trust in it. Also, like other backlinking techniques, the client does see some referral traffic coming from the forums/blogs. Sometimes, turning into conversions (sales).
